Taylor Swift's fight with Big Machine is getting support from Elizabeth Warren, AOC and Cher

Celebrities and politicians, including Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, are weighing in on Taylor Swift's public fight with Big Machine Label Group.

On Saturday, Warren commented on the singer's claims that her former label is blocking her from performing her old hits at the American Music Awards.

"Unfortunately, @TaylorSwift13 is one of many whose work has been threatened by a private equity firm," Warren tweeted. "They're gobbling up more and more of our economy, costing jobs and crushing entire industries. It's time to rein in private equity firms — and I've got a plan for that."

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared a similar message on Twitter:

"Private equity groups’ predatory practices actively hurt millions of Americans. Their leveraged buyouts have destroyed the lives of retail workers across the country, scrapping 1+ million jobs. Now they’re holding @taylorswift13’s own music hostage," she tweeted. "They need to be reigned in."

Cher also voiced her support for Swift on Saturday, validating her fellow singer's complaints that she isn't getting fair access to or compensation for her own work.

"BABE, THIS (expletive) HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE (a) MILLION SELLING ARTISTS WERE PAID OFF WITH A CADILLAC & A BOTTLE OF JACK!! I'M SORRY," Cher tweeted, adding an emoji with a puzzled look next to music tycoon Scooter Braun's name.

Developments between Swift and her music industry foes Big Machine Label Group owner Scott Borchetta and Braun escalated Friday.

To recap: Swift took to Twitter on Thursday, claiming she's being asked to meet an onerous set of conditions if she wants to play a medley of her old hits at the American Music Awards show on Nov. 24, where she's being presented with the artist of the decade award.

Swift says Borchetta and Braun, who purchased her extensive back catalog in June (to Swift's loudly expressed shock and horror), are blocking her from performing her old songs on television because "they claim that would be re-recording my music before I'm allowed to next year."

Big Machine says it's not so. In a statement provided to USA TODAY, the label said it was "shocked" to see Swift's statements "based on false information."

Later, Swift's spokeswoman, Tree Paine, shared an updated statement with USA TODAY, insisting that Borchetta and Big Machine "flatly denied the request for both American Music Awards and Netflix."

More celebrities like Hayley Kiyoko, Adam Rippon, Cara Delevingne and Kathy Griffin have announced their support for Swift on social media since then.

"Who the (expletive) do these guys think they are?" Griffin tweeted Saturday. "You, Taylor, have gone through the proper channels. That cost a fortune of your hard earned money. You created your own content. They don't have talent, just greed. Stay the course."

Justin Bieber, who is managed by Braun, appeared to take his and Borchetta's side on the matter, sharing (and later deleting) a TMZ article on his Instagram Story about Big Machine denying Swift's claims.

Earlier this week, singer Halsey also shared a message on her Instagram Story about the matter.

"Not only are we looking at an awful business move ... but this is just mean. This is punishment. This is hoping to silence her from speaking about things by dangling this over her head," she wrote.

Selena Gomez, a self-described best friend to Swift, also commented in a lengthy post to her Instagram Story, saying her heart is "so heavy right now."

"It makes me sick and extremely angry," she wrote."...It's greed, manipulation and power. You've robbed and crushed one of our best song writers of our time an opportunity to celebrate all of her music with fans and the world."

Gomez said she hoped there would be a change of heart over this "unfortunate" situation. And she issued fair warning: "Taylor fights. She will never stop fighting."
