The softness in advertising spending is likely a result of the uncertain economic situation. While in the U.S. the recovery seems to be gaining traction, the economic climate remains somewhat shaky. The recession in Europe continues to threaten the macro-economy and at home election uncertainty and the looming fiscal cliff make for an unstable situation. Furthermore, the Olympic Games concentrated ad spending to one network, posing a challenge to competitors.
