Nearly 12-million Telenav-enabled vehicles offering connected services around the world
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Making significant progress toward its strategic goal of creating the world’s largest network of connected vehicles, Telenav®, Inc. (TNAV), a leading provider of connected-car and location-based services, is pleased to report that a cumulative 11.9-million Telenav-enabled vehicles offering connected services have now been deployed in markets around the globe.
The updated total comes after 1.3-million Telenav-enabled vehicles capable of connected services were deployed into the global market during the second quarter of fiscal 2019 (ending Dec. 31, 2018). Additionally, the company recently surpassed 21-million cumulative total vehicles shipped that feature Telenav software or services.
“The future of connected cars is here now,” said HP Jin, Telenav Chairman and CEO. “Telenav’s connected-car platform enables our OEM partners to provide an enjoyable, exceptional driving experience. Our newest announced offerings– Amazon Alexa embedded into the in-car navigation and Yelp integrated into our Scout GPS Link – will make people’s lives on the go less stressful, more productive, and more fun.”
Showcasing the company’s continued momentum, other recent business highlights included:
- Telenav hybrid navigation solution launched on additional GM model year 2019 vehicles, including the Chevrolet Blazer, Chevrolet Malibu, and Cadillac CT6.
Current GM vehicles enabled with Telenav hybrid navigation in North America are: Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, ATS, XTS, XT 4 and CT6; GMC Terrain, Sierra, and Canyon; Chevrolet Silverado, Equinox, Colorado, Camaro, Cruze Hatchback, Volt, Blazer, and Malibu; and Buick Regal. Additionally, GM has launched vehicles with Telenav hybrid navigation solution in China and has launched vehicles with our on-board solution in South America, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.
- Telenav Scout® GPS Link (SGL) launched on additional Toyota model year 2019 vehicles, including Toyota RAV4 and Lexus UX.
This marks the third model year that Toyota has included the Scout GPS Link navigation app in selected vehicle models sold in the U.S. and Canada. Telenav Scout GPS Link turns a vehicle’s multimedia screen into a full in-car guidance system, powered by a smartphone app and the cloud. It enables drivers to easily transfer the navigation information displayed on their mobile device to the multimedia display inside the car, where it can be easily seen and heard by the driver.
- Telenav and Amazon collaborated to bring customized, turnkey Alexa conversational-voice interface to Telenav in-car navigation.
Telenav began integrating Amazon Alexa into its automotive navigation system offerings, making voice-based services like Alexa compatible with drivers’ needs and vehicle safety standards. This expands opportunities for consumers to have a single integrated voice service available at home, on mobile, and in their vehicle. The customized turnkey solution combines Telenav’s deep automotive experience and world-class navigation system with the cloud-based voice service from Amazon, expanding users’ touch points beyond home and smartphone to connected vehicles. The collaboration results in a tailored, voice-forward experience, where the touch user experience and Alexa are seamlessly integrated, providing a superior in-car experience. Based on the Alexa Auto SDK, the integration allows drivers to enjoy hands-free access to their in-vehicle connected navigation system, while easily asking Alexa to enter destinations, check traffic, and get directions. It also gives automakers the ability to provide their customers with a more useful, continuous experience at home and on the road.
- Telenav Scout GPS Link (SGL) mobile application added Yelp ratings and reviews for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
The addition of Yelp – a leading and internationally-recognized purveyor of crowd-sourced reviews concerning local businesses – content provides SGL users with an easy way to locate highly-rated restaurants and local businesses from their in-car entertainment system when connected to SGL. Partnering with Yelp represents Telenav’s next step in providing consumers with an enhanced connected-car experience. In addition to Telenav’s in-car ads and in-car commerce offerings, integrating Yelp into Scout GPS is an important step in the company’s efforts to grow its leadership position in offering consumers the in-car experiences that are changing the future of connected cars.
With the emergence of new technologies – such as connected, electric, and autonomous vehicles, Telenav continues to help its OEM partners navigate the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing industry.
