PEMBROKE, Bermuda (AP) _ Third Point Reinsurance Ltd. (TPRE) on Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of $19.6 million.

On a per-share basis, the Pembroke, Bermuda-based company said it had profit of 19 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 5 cents per share.

The property and casualty reinsurance company posted revenue of $172.7 million in the period.

Third Point Reinsurance shares have declined 14 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $12.60, a fall of 13 percent in the last 12 months.
