United Parcel Service, Inc. shares closed down a modest 0.67% on Thursday. It was a wavering day for both UPS and FedEx as big news emerged that Amazon is experimenting with a pilot program that will get deliveries to its customers faster. The service will allow for more of Amazon's products to be available for free two-day delivery. According to Bloomberg, the program, dubbed "Seller Flex" will come to other states in the U.S. in 2018 but as of right now it's on a trial basis near the West Coast. In other news, UPS announced the opening of its ninth U.S. UPS Integrad driver training facility in Lake Mary, FL. The logistics company now has over 9,349 "Circle of Honor" drivers who have driven 25 years or more without an accident. UPS Integrad Expansion Director Jeanne Lawrence commented, "The sophisticated training at UPS Integrad and our focus on adaptive learning styles will guarantee a new generation of Circle of Honor drivers."

FedEx Corporation shares traded fairly flat on Thursday but managed to close in the green up a modest 0.13%. It was an interesting day for shipping companies after reports revealed that Amazon is testing "Seller Flex" delivery service to rival UPS and FedEx. According to a Bloomberg report, the e-commerce site is testing a pilot home delivery service with third-party merchants on its online platform. According to Bloomberg, a broad rollout could be on the way next year. Amazon did say it's not looking to replace any current shipping relations soon. The company's spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman commented to CNNMoney about the Bloomberg report and said, "We are using the same carrier partners to offer this program that we've used for years, including UPS, USPS and FedEx."
