Today's Research Reports on Stocks to Watch: Hasbro and Mattel

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / September 20, 2017 / Shares of both Hasbro and Mattel saw a bounce in Tuesday trading after it was revealed earlier in the week that Toys 'R' Us would be filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. While certainly many traders are nervous about this considering that Toys 'R' Us is a big distribution channel for both companies, Jim Fosina, chief executive of Fosina Marketing Group, said that both Mattel and Hasbro, "might have some of the strongest opportunities to excel."

Hasbro's shares closed up 1.88% yesterday on nearly 2 million shares traded. Leading toy retailer Toys 'R' Us has filed for bankruptcy protection this week. Hasbro shares slid on Monday but saw a rebound in yesterday trading. The fact that Toys 'R' Us is a major distribution channel for Hasbro has traders concerned, especially as we head into the holiday season. Hasbro may need to find alternate distribution channels. CEO of toy retail consultancy Klosters Trading Corp., Lutz Muller commented, "If there is any kind of bankruptcy filing, it will have a major disruption for all of the toy suppliers. Toys 'R' Us needs to have money in place to get merchandise on the shelves ahead of the holiday season."

Mattel's shares closed up 1.21% on Tuesday on about 16.2 million shares traded. Though the company did not have any significant news yesterday, it was the announcement that toy store Toys 'R' Us has filed bankruptcy that gave toy stocks some losses on Monday. Tuesday's gains were a pleasant bounce for Mattel which sunk to an 8-year low on Monday. UBS analyst Arpine Kocharyan seemed optimistic however as the analyst wrote in a note to clients that "bankruptcies can be disruptive to industries in the near term, similar cases have not over time impacted toy industry growth, as demand has been picked up by other channels."
