American Express Co., General Electric Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., International Business Machines Corp., Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble Co., Travelers Companies Inc., UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc., which combined represent roughly a third of the weighting in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, are scheduled to report earnings this week.

"This week is important because you've got companies from almost each sector reporting, so you're going to get a good picture," of Corporate America's health, said Quincy Krosby, Chief Market Strategist at Prudential Financial.
