Trimble buys mapping tools maker ALK Technologies

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) -- Trimble Navigation Ltd. said Thursday that it bought privately held ALK Technologies Inc., which makes route-drawing tools for professional drivers.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Princeton, N.J.-based ALK's products use global-positioning technology to help truck drivers and others plan and navigate routes.

Trimble, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., earned $157 million on revenue of $1.52 billion in the first nine months of 2012.

The company has made several acquisitions since September 2011, including a Belgian company that makes aerial drones used for mapping.
