WATERTOWN, MA--(Marketwire - Mar 15, 2013) - Based upon criteria measuring key areas of wellness and health promotion, Tufts Health Plan today announces it is the first health plan in the Northeast and one of only 20 organizations in the U.S. to receive the Wellness & Health Promotion (WHP) Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, or NCQA.
This designation reinforces the Watertown-based health insurer's commitment to providing outstanding wellness and health promotion programs to its customers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The accreditation covers the company's Commercial HMO, POS and PPO products.
The Wellness & Health Promotion (WHP) Accreditation uses standardized measures to determine how well organizations implement wellness programs in the workplace, provide services such as coaching to help participants develop skills to make healthy choices, and properly safeguard individual health information.
The NCQA offers this recognition as part of the effort to integrate wellness programs into the health care industry.

The accreditation survey process includes on-site and off-site evaluations of 12 standards that measure the effectiveness of Tufts Health Plan's wellness and health promotion programs. A national oversight committee reviews those findings and assigns an accreditation level.
