Turtle Time With Telfar Clemens! The Designer Made a Cameo on The Real Housewives of New York City

Last night on the new episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, Sonja Morgan threw herself a party. She’d been featured in a fashion shoot for Paper magazine and, as housewives are wont to do, she celebrated her general fabulousness with vodka, fake hair, and a questionably age-appropriate dress. The usual suspects were in attendance: Bethanny Frankel, Ramona Singer, Tinsley Mortimer, Dorinda Medley, and the cabaret countess herself, Luann De Lesseps. Just as the cocktails started to flow, the camera panned over to Morgan and her lady crew, all seated on top of a booth, and a very familiar face appeared. “This is Telfar, the handbag designer!” Morgan screamed as the 2017 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Telfar Clemens stopped over to introduce himself to Singer and De Lesseps. He fit right in, situating himself on the booth and seemingly ignoring the fact that Morgan referred to him as a “handbag designer” (he does, in fact, have his own successful ready-to-wear business). “This is what I do,” Morgan said off camera in her interview. “I bring people together.”

This was, in fact, the first time that a young, semiunderground, and, by all accounts, cool designer has ever stepped in front of a Bravo TV camera to fraternize with the Housewives. Fashion, as it exists on this show, is about Upper East Side boutiques and labels started by the cast members themselves.

Clemens didn’t say much on camera, but he looked genuinely excited to be having a kiki with the women in honor of Ms. Morgan’s big fashun moment. He proved as much today when he posted a clip of his cameo to his official Instagram page, writing, “Only god can judge me… to my sister wife @sonjatmorgan.” No judgment, Telfar. In fact, this Bravo superfan thinks you’d make a fabulous seventh housewife (hint, hint, Andy Cohen).
