Two women in their 20s injured after being stabbed in Greater Manchester

A street in Greater Manchester has been locked down after two women were stabbed on Saturday morning.

The women were taken to hospital following the incident in Hindley, near Wigan, at around 10.30am.

Emergency services were called to Atherton Road to deal with the stabbings and police confirmed a woman, who is believed to be in her 20’s, is receiving treatment in hospital for serious injuries.

They added another woman, who is also believed to be in her 20’s, has been discharged from hospital after sustaining minor injuries.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbings.

A GMP spokesman said: "Police are currently responding to reports of a double stabbing on Atherton Road, Hindley.

"Atherton Road is currently closed in both directions between the junctions of Leigh Road and Westleigh Lane.

"Please avoid the area where possible."

North West Ambulance Service added: “We sent two air ambulances, two advanced paramedics, two rapid response vehicles and two ambulances.

“Two patients were taken to hospital by road ambulance.”

Police are continuing their enquiries and have closed a half-mile section of Atherton Road.
