United Cannabis Corporation Files International Patent Application to Protect the Processes Related to its Prana Product Line

Filing is Based On the Company's US Provisional Patent Filed in October 2014

DENVER, CO / ACCESSWIRE / March 17, 2016 / United Cannabis Corporation (CNAB) (the "Company" or "United Cannabis"), the creator of Prana Bio Nutrient Medicinals, today announced that it filed an international patent application, pursuant to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), for "Cannabis Extracts and Methods of Preparing and Using Same."

This application is another step in the United Cannabis' mission to protect its intellectual property and follows on the 2014 acceptance of its provisional and then non-provisional utility patent applications for its proprietary processes.

Tony Verzura, United Cannabis' Chief Technology Officer commented on the filing, "As the interest in cannabinoid-based products continues to build, we are seeing an increase in the number of inquiries regarding our Prana line and the underlying technologies. This application not only provides international protection of our proprietary processes, it will also enable us to capitalize on our work though the safe licensing of these technologies to interested parties around the world."

Mr. Verzura went on to say, "The application further strengthens United Cannabis' intellectual property position as well as our branded products. We've invested a lot of time and capital in the creation of our Prana line and the technologies that make it possible, and we intend to safeguard that innovation."

The processes included in the filing are integral to the Company's branded products, including the Prana Bio Nutrient Medicinals line, and comprise the application of strain specific ratio based cannabinoids, plant based extractions, and the use of cannabis derived terpenes in the medical and pharmaceutical delivery methods including capsules, sublinguals, topicals, transdermal patches, edibles, aerosol sprays, aromatherapy, suppositories, and vaporization.

PCT is an international treaty that provides patent protection simultaneously in more than 145 Contracting States through a single application, rather than filing separate national or regional patent applications. The acceptance of the application by PCT establishes a filing date in all contracting states, providing the Company with a precedent against any future competing filings.
