PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) on Tuesday reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $18.9 million.
The Providence, Rhode Island-based company said it had net income of 36 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 44 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 69 cents per share.
The organic and specialty foods distributor posted revenue of $6.41 billion in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $6.44 billion.
For the year, the company reported a loss of $285 million, or $5.56 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $21.39 billion.
United Natural expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.22 to $1.76 per share, with revenue in the range of $23.5 billion to $24.3 billion.
United Natural shares have risen 4.5% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $11.07, a decrease of 63% in the last 12 months.
