FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ Universal Insurance Holdings Inc. (UVE) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $40.1 million.
On a per-share basis, the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based company said it had profit of $1.14. Earnings, adjusted for one-time items, came to $1 per share.
The property and casualty insurance company posted revenue of $236.6 million in the period.
Universal Insurance shares have dropped 21 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $29.88, a decline of nearly 9 percent in the last 12 months.
