US Indexes Close Mostly Flat Wednesday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 27,492.56 on Wednesday with a loss of 0.07 points or -0.01%. The S&P 500 closed at 3,076.77 for a gain of 2.15 points or 0.07%. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 8,410.63 for a loss of 24.05 points or -0.29%. The VIX Volatility Index was lower at 12.70 for a loss of 0.40 points or -3.05%.

Wednesday's market movers

U.S. indexes closed mostly flat on Wednesday as stocks showed resistance to China trade optimism and the House of Representatives advanced its impeachment investigation, announcing public hearings next week. News reports suggested that the U.S. and China may be planning to delay the signing of a final agreement now being targeted for December.
