Friday's market movers
U.S. stocks were mostly lower Friday with the technology sector leading losses. The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.02% for the day after reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into social media data, specifically data on Facebook (NASDAQ:FB). The Trump administration reported it would be delaying a decision on the allowance of U.S. business dealings with China's Huawei, which was also a big factor for the tech sector.
In currencies, the Chinese yuan's midpoint was fixed at 7.0136 per dollar on Friday and the U.S. dollar-Chinese yuan ended the day at 7.0624. The U.S. Dollar Index was lower at 97.52, falling 0.10%.
Economic reports affecting market trading included the following:
- The Producer Price Index increased 0.2% in July and 1.7% year over year.
- The Core Producer Price Index, excluding food and energy, decreased 0.1% in July and increased 2.1% year over year.
- The Baker Hughes North American oil rig count decreased to 1,074 from 1,079.
