US Nuclear's Breakthrough "RandFan" Solves Multi-Billion Dollar Unmet Need for Radon Detection and Mitigation in Millions of Commercial Buildings

In this article:
  • Radon is the world's second leading cause of lung cancer and is common in buildings almost everywhere.

  • OSHA sets maximum exposure limits to protect US workers from radon in over 6.5 million workplaces.

  • Current radon testing is deficient, takes days for results, and cannot adequately help employers meet OSHA requirements.

  • Radon levels can increase or decrease quickly and dramatically without warning.

  • US Nuclear's RandFan detects radon in under 10 minutes and immediately vents the radon out of the building when levels are above OSHA requirements.

DENVER, CO / ACCESSWIRE / December 3, 2018 / Radon is a hazardous and commonly occurring natural gas that is radioactive and believed to be the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon also referred to as "Rn-222", cannot be smelled, tasted or seen. Testing for the presence of radon has always been difficult and has required several days to receive results. Even worse, there has been no immediate way to eliminate the radon when it is finally detected. Another problem is that levels of radon can fluctuate substantially and unexpectedly with weather and other variables.

A number of manufacturers offer inexpensive radon detectors to households, but they are based on inferior, unreliable, and outdated technology and have little or no value towards real-time, automated remediation. Rather, commercial property builders are currently digging under the foundation of many buildings and installing huge, expensive, underground turbine fans that run 24/7 unnecessarily wasting electricity.

US Nuclear Corp. (OTC PINK: UCLE) is a long-time leader in high-quality, fast, accurate, radioactive monitoring devices, and sells its products to an impressive list of loyal and repeat customers such as NASA, the EPA, Department of Energy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, MIT, Pacific Gas & Electric, General Electric, Lawrence Livermore, Oakridge National Lab and many more.

US Nuclear has solved the radon problem with its "RandFan" radon detection and mitigation system that accurately detects radon gas below the EPA's action levels in just minutes and operates a relay when the alarm set-point is triggered thus activating ventilation fans until the radon concentration is vented to the outside and reduced to safe levels. The RandFan is compatible with all standard HVAC systems and can be wall-mounted in the basement or first floor of office buildings, apartments, hotels, schools, hospitals, factories, markets, retail stores, restaurants, shopping malls, and any building to continuously safeguard against radon exposure.

Bob Goldstein, US Nuclear CEO, says, "Solving the Radon problem was a natural for US Nuclear since we understand radioactive monitoring and measuring probably better than anyone in the construction industry and we provide some of the most accurate detection devices in the world." He went on to say, "Our initial focus is on large buildings with large HVAC systems where our detector and command module can easily be put into service to fix the problem immediately and cost-effectively. We are in early discussions with Johnson Controls and other HVAC industry leaders."

With over 6.5 million workplace locations in need of an effective radon detection and mitigation system, at a starting price of $2,500 per system, the potential market is well over $16 billion. If US Nuclear Corp. partners with a large HVAC company such as Johnson Controls, Carrier or Trane, US Nuclear shareholders could see revenues and share prices increase to several multiples of current sales and share prices.

OSHA has clearly defined limits of radon exposure that employers must follow in order to be in compliance. According to OSHA, there are approximately 6.5 million workplaces covered by this Act. OSHA clearly states, "Radon or Rn-222 is indeed "covered" by OSHA regulations and it is the responsibility of the employer to do the testing. As stated in 1910.1096 (d)(1) "Every employer shall make such surveys as may be necessary for him to comply with the provisions in this section. Survey means an evaluation of the radiation hazards incident to the production, use, release, disposal, or presence of radioactive materials or other sources of radiation under a specific set of conditions. When appropriate, such evaluation includes a physical survey of the location of materials and equipment, and measurements of levels of radiation or concentrations of radioactive material present."

Mr. Goldstein added, "Our mission is to show employers and building owners a low-cost way to make their lives and the lives of their employees, tenants, and visitors better, and to reduce any potential future class action lawsuits that are always a threat in our litigious society. We also foresee practical new models for household use that can be easily installed with existing central heating and air conditioning systems. We are very excited and pleased with our new radon detection and mitigation "RandFan" solution and see a very bright future in a world with a big unmet need.

About US Nuclear Corporation

US Nuclear Corp is a radiation and chemical detection holding company specializing in the development and manufacturing and sales of radiation and chemical detection instrumentation. Through three operating divisions — Technical Associates (TA), Overhoff Technology (OTC), and Electronic Control Concepts (ECC) — US Nuclear Corp. harbors more than 100 years of combined experience in supplying top of the line instrumentation to any industry utilizing radionuclides. This includes nuclear power plants, national laboratories, government agencies, homeland security, military, universities and schools, research companies, hospitals, medical and dental centers, energy companies, weapons facilities, first responders, local governments, and manufacturing plants.

US Nuclear also has first rights to manufacture and the right to market MIFTEC Laboratories, Inc. radiopharmaceutical products. MIFTEC is the only company in the world developing radioisotopes for the nuclear medicine field using patented, fusion technology which is powered by a simple isotope of hydrogen and has no reliance on highly enriched or low enriched uranium. This breakthrough is believed to be able to provide large amounts of scarce radioisotopes at close to half today's cost of production.
