USA’s Basketball Teams Are Staying on This Cruise Ship for the Olympics

The Opening Ceremonies are almost upon us and enthusiasm for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio is reaching its climax as the world comes together to support and cheer on our finest athletes. As in recent years, the USA men’s and women’s basketball teams will be skipping lodging at the Olympic Village in favor of staying on a luxury cruise, complete with airtight security.

Silver Cloud, Silversea Cruises’ spacious yacht-like cruise, usually carries up to 296 guests with ocean-view suites, private verandas, a spa, a bar, multiple dining areas, a cigar lounge, and an open-air pool. However, to better accommodate the tall elite athletes and ensure proper rest, Silver Cloud has customized the yacht and prepared the rooms with beds that accommodate seven-footers. The ship is anchored at Rio’s Pier Mauá port, where armed police boats, a bulletproof-glass fence, and an airport-style security scanner serve as protection. (nbcolympics.com)
