USAP Gets Nadcap & ISO 17025 Accreditation

Specialty steel maker Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. (USAP) has attained Nadcap (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 17025 lab testing accreditation at its Dunkirk Specialty Steel facility in New York.

Universal Stainless has met the demanding industry certifications for lab testing at Dunkirk facility. All facilities of the company now constitute a single manufacturing system and its certification is an important strategic move toward building premium alloys and more technologically advanced products for targeted markets, including aerospace, oil & gas and power generation.

Nadcap is an internationally acclaimed cooperative accreditation program of major companies and their suppliers designed to manage an economical consensus approach to special processes and products and offer continual improvement within the aerospace and defense industries. Nadcap aims at providing international, unbiased, independent manufacturing process and product assessments along with certification services.

ISO, which is developed through global consensus, is the world's largest developer of voluntary International Standards and provides modern specifications for products, services and good practice. ISO 17025 specifically provides general requirements for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations, including sampling. ISO certifications are applicable to all organizations performing tests and/or calibrations, including laboratories where testing and/or calibration forms part of inspection and product certification.

Universal Stainless, in June, also achieved the fifth Nadcap Heat Treat accreditation at its Dunkirk Specialty Steel facility in six months. This Nadcap accreditation represents a crucial step toward producing premium alloys and more technologically advanced products.

Earlier, Universal Stainless achieved Nadcap Heat Treat accreditation at its Bridgeville, Pa., facility in May. It reflected the company’s continued focus on realizing its objectives and serving the targeted markets, led by aerospace.

Universal Stainless currently holds a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

Other companies in the steel industry with favorable Zacks Rank are Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (SID), Shiloh Industries Inc. (SHLO) and Gerdau S.A. (GGB). While Companhia Siderurgica and Shiloh hold a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Gerdau retain a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
