“Deadpool 2” isn’t the only R-rated superhero blockbuster expected to make a ton of money at the box office this year. Sony’s “Venom” is gearing up for release this fall, and it brings Tom Hardy fully into the superhero tentpole space. The studio has been marketing the film without giving away Hardy’s full transformation as the title character, and that anticipation continues ends with the official trailer.

“Venom” stars Hardy as Eddie Brock, who moves to San Francisco and battles an evil alien symbiote. The film, directed by “Gangster Squad” filmmaker Ruben Fleischer, takes inspiration from both the “Lethal Protector” and “Planet of the Symbiotes” comic book storylines. Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed co-star.

Sony will release “Venom” in theaters nationwide October 5. Watch the trailer below.
