Venture IPOs rise, led by tech

The tech sector fueled the strongest performance for initial public offerings in a first quarter since 2007. VC-backed startups led, accounting for 19 of 42 total IPOs. Eleven of the startups were techs. Guidewire Software (NYSE:GWRE - News) and Brightcove (NASDAQ:BCOV - News) shares are up most among recent IPOs, 75% and 132% respectively, since their start, though both fell Mon. Five venture-backed IPOs were in the biotech and medical field, and 2 each in industrial and energy, the Nat'l Venture Capital Assn. said.
