Video: Best vehicles for tailgating

Lucas Wysocki

Some people spend years developing their tailgate ritual. Everything has got to be perfect from the team apparel, iced down drinks, and of course the almighty grill. There's one key component that makes or breaks a good tailgate party. It's the tailgate ... and the vehicle it's attached to. Bankrate.com put together a list of this year's best vehicles for tailgating.

Soundbite from Steve Pounds

"We wanted cars or trucks with enough room for five or more people. We wanted enough space for paraphernalia like lawnchairs and coolers and we wanted a great audio system. That last thing we looked for was parking features, say rear parking sensors, in case a driver had to get into that last parking spot in the stadium parking lot."

On top of the list is the Honda CR-V EX-L. The CR-V made the list because of its impressive 71 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seats folded and great audio system. If you've got a long drive to the stadium, it gets an impressive 31 highway miles to the gallon.

The Dodge Durango Crew made the list due to its thoughtful features like a power rear liftgate, backup camera, rear-parking sensors , three 12 volt outlets and hard-drive music storage. You can pack 7 of your fellow fans in the Durango and still have 17 cubic feet for coolers, chairs and big foam hands.

While not the flashiest vehicle on our list, the Nissan NV Passenger SV made the list because of its enormous capacity: 12 people and 19 cubic feet of cargo to be exact. If you need more room but fewer people, pop out the benches row by row to accommodate all your tailgating gear.

Rounding out the list is the GMC Acadia. Leather seats and an optional Bose sound system will make you the envy of your fellow tailgaters. This vehicle comes stacked with features like a 12-volt outlet in the cargo area, a 3-prong 115 volt outlet, rear view parking camera and room for 7 plus gear.

Now that you've got the rundown on some of our top tailgating vehicles, all you need to worry about is if they come in your team colors! To see more of our favorites or if you're in the market for a different sort of vehicle, check out the Auto section here at Bankrate.com. I'm Lucas Wysocki.
