New video games coming out this week | Pokémon, Star Wars Battlefront 2, a lot of Switch editions
We might be getting to the end of the Christmas release period now, but that doesn't mean it's letting up. It's quite this opposite, in fact. Two huge franchises are getting new releases this week, and it also seems to be the perfect week to start bolstering your collection of games on the Nintendo Switch, as some of the biggest games from the last few years are finally making their way to the portable console. It might be the time to pick one up yourself, even. Here's all of the games releasing this week.
L.A. Noire - November 14, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One (Out now!)
This re-release of L.A. Noire is going to be bringing the game to a Nintendo console for the first time ever, with a number of graphical and interface improvements to boot. For the Nintendo Switch specifically, there's new touch-based and movement-based controls, as well as a new Good Cop/Bad Cop menu system and improved details across all platforms.
L.A. Noire itself is a detective drama game about Cole Phelps, a cop in L.A. during the 1940s, uncovering the criminal injustices that go on throughout the city. As Phelps, you'll take part in chases, investigate crime scenes, and interview both key witnesses and suspects. That last point was always its main draw, with impressive motion capture on real actors' faces showing their reactions to every line of questioning. If nothing else, L.A. Noire is a fascinating game about trying to work out if that one person you're talking to is lying.

Batman: The Telltale Series - November 14, Nintendo Switch (Out now!)
The sequel to Batman: The Telltale Series is currently coming out as a series of episodes for other platforms as Batman: The Enemy Within, but the full original series, praised for its creative take on the Batman story is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch now, just in case you missed it when it released in 2016.
As a point and click adventure, you'll be put into Batman's shoes to solve a number of cases throughout Gotham, facing off against baddies like Catwoman, The Penguin, and Harvey Dent. It is, in many ways, very similar to Telltale Games' other games, with a very similar visual style, writing style, and kind of puzzling. If you enjoyed their Tales from the Borderlands or The Walking Dead games, it's probably right up your street.
Rocket League - November 14, Nintendo Switch (Out now!)
The easiest way to describe Rocket League is as football but with cars that can fly with giant rockets strapped to their backs. It sounds utterly absurd, like a joke from a game show in the year 3000, but works brilliantly. Many of the rules of football are thrown out the window in favour of the chaos and difficulty of controlling a car precisely enough that you can dribble a ball that's about 15 metres wide.

The best MMO video games
Rocket League is already out on most other platforms, but this is bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch with a few exclusive cars and as a portable form of the game. It's great for more hardcore gamers or those who just like to play FIFA, really: football with cars is a concept that has been perfected by Rocket League's developers, Psyonix.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon - November 17, Nintendo 3DS
In what may well be the last hurrah for Pokémon on the 3DS, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are the step up from Pokémon Sun and Moon, looking to be a sort of sequel that builds upon the story that was set in place and improving on it.
It is, though, just Pokémon: you'll travel the land, catching and battling Pokémon to prove that you're the best trainer in the land. While you do this, the evil Team Rainbow Rocket (an alternate universe of Team Rocket from the Pokémon TV show and the original games, Red and Blue) are trying to do something, well, evil, and you'll have to stop them! It very much does look like a last hurrah, with quite how much has been improved - it may well be the last huge release for the 3DS!

Star Wars Battlefront 2 - November 17, PS4, Xbox One, PC
The latest Star Wars game is Star Wars Battlefront 2, the sequel to 2015's Star Wars Battlefront, a graphically impressive multiplayer and single-player shooter where teams fight over objectives in a number of Star Wars settings. From the forests of Endor to the battles high above planets, it's very much a big-budget shooter, with all the relevant bells and whistles attached.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - November 17, Nintendo Switch
After coming to almost every other current major platform, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is realising on the portable Nintendo Switch this week. In it, you're the Dragonborn in the fantasy land of Skyrim, destined to save the world from dragons that fly around terrorising the people .
It's coming with some special Switch-exclusive armour and weapons, but is otherwise the Skyrim people have been playing for the last few years: a fantasy epic about dragons, magic, and monsters.
