Virginia DB's splurge after winning lottery was a pair of Gucci flip-flops
What do you do when you win $100,000 in the lottery? If you’re Virginia defensive back Chuck Davis, you buy a pair of flip-flops and save and invest the rest.
Davis told the Washington Post that his big splurge after his summer windfall from the Virginia Lottery was a pair of Gucci sandals that retail for over $300.
“Oh yeah, I bought some Gucci flip-flops,” Davis revealed Monday morning following Day 3 of training camp.
The redshirt freshman spent $1 for a Cash 5 game ticket at a 7-Eleven in Ashburn on the morning of June 25 on his way home from a workout. His numbers, at the suggestion of his grandmother, were 1-3-4-7-9. He also purchased coffee for his mother.
Don’t worry, winning the lottery is not a violation of NCAA rules. So Davis was in no danger of having to give up the winnings before he received them. It’s a situation far different than the one ineligible UCF kicker Donald De La Haye was facing because he was potentially — in the eyes of the NCAA — profiting off of his athletic likeness in his YouTube videos.
He also told the Post that he’s been able to save most of the money because his parents had stashed enough cash to fund his college education.
A dollar for a $100,000 prize is a pretty damn good return too. Though we can’t say that we’d advise you to play the lottery regularly as a financial plan. Your odds of winning the prize Davis did are pretty small.
Davis, a native of Fairfax, was a redshirt at Virginia in 2016 after he transferred from Nebraska over the summer.
