Liberty Global (LBTYA), which owns Germany's No. 2 cable operator, Unity Media, made a $114 per share offer for Kabel Deutschland, Germany's largest cable company, Reuters said, citing a knowledgeable source. U.K.-based Vodafone (VOD) a few days earlier said it was in talks with Kabel. A Liberty deal would likely be closely scrutinized by German antitrust authorities, a hurdle Liberty has acknowledged. Vodafone shares rose 0.5%. Liberty Global fell 0.2%.
