Waiver Wired: Pick up Parise

Corey Abbott

Ilya Kovalchuk went from being owned in 22% of Yahoo leagues to 33%, while Dominik Kubalik’s ownership exploded from 9% a week ago to 48%.  Samuel Girard also had a surge in pickups, while going from 27% to 36%.  It’s also worth noting that Tanner Pearson is still available in 64% of Yahoo leagues.

The NHL All-Star break and upcoming bye weeks have lightened the amount of upcoming games.  There are 17 teams that don’t play at all this coming week.

Zach Parise (Minnesota) - LW - Owned in 21% of Yahoo leagues

Parise has scored four goals during a three-game point streak.  He had a 10-game goalless slump prior to his recent scoring surge, but he was still productive over that span with six assists and 21 shots on net.  Parise has been skating on the top line of the Wild with Eric Staal and Mats Zuccarello.  Minnesota is just one of four teams that plays twice this coming week and he’s worthy of being owned in more leagues.

Paul Stastny (Vegas) - C - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

Stastny has supplied five goals and 10 points in the last 10 games.  He has picked up one goal and one assist in each of the past two matches.  Stastny has been back playing alongside Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone of late due to William Karlsson’s upper-body injury.  He took a puck to the face on Saturday night, but if he’s ready to play on Tuesday then he’s worthy of a flier.

Christian Dvorak (Arizona) - C, LW - Owned in 18% of Yahoo leagues

Dvorak has two goals and two assists over a four-game point spree.  He has accounted for 21 points in the last 30 games.  Dvorak has meshed nicely between with Taylor Hall and Conor Garland on the top line of the Coyotes.  Arizona doesn’t have any games scheduled until Jan. 29, but Dvorak is worth stashing away because he is poised to have a strong second half of the season.

Jason Zucker (Minnesota) - LW, RW - Owned in 18% of Yahoo leagues

Zucker didn’t have a point in his first three games after returning from a fractured right fibula, which required surgery to repair.  He sat out 10 games due to the ailment.  Before he was injured, Zucker was tied for second on the Wild in points.  He is starting to round back into form, though, as he had one goal and two assists in Saturday’s blowout win over Dallas.  Zucker had three goals and seven points in eight matches in December prior to getting hurt.

Frank Vatrano (Florida) - LW, RW - Owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues

Vatrano has been hot this month with four goals and four helpers in eight games.  He has collected two goals and three assists during a three-game point streak.  Vatrano has been clicking with Mike Hoffman, who has been piling up points lately.  Florida is another team that plays two times this coming week.

Jordan Eberle (New York Islanders) - RW - Owned in 15% of Yahoo leagues

Eberle has provided four goals and two assists in the past six games.  He has lit the lamp in three of the last four matches and he has been credited with 14 shots during that stretch.  Eberle has worked his way back to the top line with Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee.

Brandon Saad (Chicago) - LW, RW - Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues

Saad was back in the lineup on Saturday night after he sat out 12 games with an ankle injury.  he scored a goal and had four shots on target in Chicago’s win over Toronto.  Saad skated alongside Patrick Kane in the contest.  He is worth monitoring and could be a decent pickup in deeper leagues if he can heat up again.

Kailer Yamamoto (Edmonton) - RW - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Yamamoto appeared on Waiver Wired last week.  He has continued to produce on Edmonton’s second line alongside Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl.  Yamamoto has three goals and three assists in eight games since joining the Oilers from the minors in late December.  He has also been credited with 23 hits, 10 shots and four penalty minutes.

Alexander Wennberg (Columbus) - C, LW - Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Wennberg has racked up three goals and nine points in the past 10 games.  He has registered three goals and two assists during a four-game point streak.  Wennberg has received a boost from Cam Atkinson’s return to the lineup, but he was playing well before that happened.

Jesper Fast (New York Rangers) - RW - Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Fast has compiled two goals and five assists in the past five games.  The bulk of that production has come thanks to two three-point performances.  Fast has benefited from playing alongside Artemi Panarin and Ryan Strome on the top line of the Rangers.
