The No. 2 U.S. drugstore chain reported March sales of $6.16 bil, a 2.3% hike from the same month last year. Customer traffic in comparable stores fell 1.3%, while basket size (a measure of number of goods bought) rose 5.5%. Walgreen (WAG) filled 4% more prescriptions during the month, 7.4% if adjusted for an extra Sun. and 1 less Thu. this year. The company noted that Easter fell on March 31 this year vs. April 8 last year, which cut the number of prescriptions filled. Shares fell 2.2% to 46.30.
