Golden State Warriors guard Patrick McCaw took a frightening fall against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday and had to be stretchered off the court.

McCaw attacked the basket on a baseline layup in the third quarter and was undercut by Kings forward Vince Carter on his way down. He landed awkwardly on the court where he stayed for several minutes, clearly in pain.

Players from both teams huddled together before McCaw was eventually taken off the court on a stretcher.

The Warriors later announced that McCaw has been taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

ESPN reports that McCaw has regained feeling in a leg after initially experiencing numbness.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr was visibly upset after McCaw’s fall and was reportedly frustrated with Carter, as relayed by The Athletic.

Carter was assessed a flagrant one foul on the play.

After initial emotions settled, Kerr consoled Carter as McCaw was on the floor.

Kerr spoke with reporters after the game to talk about the injury and his interaction with Carter. He didn’t have any new information on McCaw’s status.

Carter spoke with reporters about the incident and his apology to the Warriors.

“He’s a young guy,” Carter said. “He has a bright future. I don’t play the game that way. To see a young guy laying down there. It’s an unfortunate situation. … Regardless of how it happened, the accident, all of the things that they were telling me. You still want to see him OK.”

Kevin Durant told reporters that he and his Warriors teammates don’t believe that Carter had any ill intent on the play.
