VAUGHAN, Ontario (AP) _ Waste Connections Inc. (WCN) on Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $125.6 million.
The Vaughan, Ontario-based company said it had profit of 48 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 62 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 60 cents per share.
The solid waste services provider posted revenue of $1.24 billion in the period, which met Street forecasts.
Waste Connections shares have risen 20 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $89.35, a climb of 23 percent in the last 12 months.
