WATCH: Boswell bloodied as he puts United 2-0 up

The defender headed home to put D.C. United 2-0 up over New York City FC, but took a head to his cheek and came away with a cut for his troubles.

Bobby Boswell knows a thing or two about physical confrontations.

The big defender has never been one to shy away from putting his body on the line and was at it against Sunday, heading home D.C. United's second goal of the game against New York City FC, but taking a nasty cut along the way.

Here's a better look at the post-goal injury.

The injury may well be worth it. If United can on for a win, the club will be assured of a playoff spot.

NYCFC decided to help out as well, fiving United an absolute gift of a goal to make it 3-0.

Definition of a gift. @RV__17 makes it 3-0. #DCvNYC https://t.co/8Y1mvNlJQM
