What is Tron about?
This pioneering work of technical achievement is one of the more offbeat, but still seminal, works of the early cyberpunk movement of the 1980s. While Blade Runner ultimately had the far greater cultural impact, Tron still commands a worldwide cult following, and has spawned a 2010 sequel, an animated TV series, several video games, and more.
In Tron, software engineer Kevin Flynn works for a company called ENCOM alongside some of his generation’s brightest minds. When Flynn tries to hack into his employer’s system without authorization, he’s converted into a being made not of cells but of computer data, and enters a fantastical realm known as the Grid—which looks and sounds an awful lot like an arcade game.
The film stars Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan, Barnard Hughes, Dan Shor, Peter Jurasik, and Stuart Thomas.
