WeMessage App Lets You Send iMessages from an Android Phone

iPhones and Androids may both have their pros and cons, but any Apple acolyte will tell you that one undeniable advantage to the iPhone is the ability to send iMessages in place of SMS texts. Now, though, Android users can enjoy some iPhone capabilities, too, because a new app called weMessage is bringing iMessaging to Androids, Lifehacker reports.

One catch: You'll need a Mac computer to set it up, since an Apple device is required for authentication. Once you download it, the app creates a server on your Mac and sends the messages from your computer to your phone. Then, you can take advantage of read receipts, the ability to send all sorts of attachments, and the chance to participate in iMessage group chats. (It's unclear if the app carries all of iMessages' advantages, like the ability to text from your computer or text using WiFi.) The app is encrypted, so privacy won't be a concern.

This brilliant invention is the work of none other than a 16-year-old named Roman Scott, according to an FAQ on its site. "WeMessage was created to serve the many Android users who are left out of the iMessage ecosystem," he explains.

The iPhone had better step up its game, because using an Android just got more appealing.
