What's planned for Briarcliff diner site; new home decor store opens in Chappaqua

In 2019, the Landmark Diner in Briarcliff Manor, which many locals referred to as an icon, was gutted by a fire. Fast forward to 2022 and the site of the former restaurant, as well as the neighboring building, have been sold to developers who plan to put in a 7-Eleven gas station and convenience store. On the lot adjacent, a new Taco Bell location will take shape.

In Chappaqua, Bentley Waters, a Westchester-based interior designer, opened the Chappaqua storefront Bentley Jane on April 30. The home goods and furniture store and interior design headquarters sells home furnishings and décor while also serving as a space for Waters and her team to showcase their work.

There may finally be a new use for Port Chester's closed United Hospital. Since 2005, the hospital has been boarded up and vacant. Now, a developer is hoping to raise a mixed-use project, offering retail and residential space. Read all about it in a special report for lohud subscribers

Next time you're at the beach in Rye, you might come upon strange wiffle-ball-esque structures along the shoreline. These artificial reefs, The Journal News/lohud.com reporter Eduardo Cuevas writes, are to aid in "the effects of climate change" as well as "help restore fish and wildlife habitats."

Fans of waterfront dining will be happy to know Newburgh's is getting ready for The Jet Set tiki bar and restaurant to open this summer. The brainchild of the owners behind the city's The Liberty Street Bistro and Newburgh Flour Shop, the bar and restaurant will offer "elevated bar food" as well as a list of frozen and on-the-rocks beverages.
