Odds are you love the town with pep and everyone who inhabits it. But there's a chance you've asked yourself... Is Riverdale a real place? Like, where did the comics assume the fictional Riverdale would be located? And is there an actual town called Riverdale? Is there even a Riverdale High IRL where I can buy a real Riverdale Vixens tee and root for the home team?

Well, get ready to have all your questions about the iconic TV series ANSWERED.

Where exactly is Archie's Riverdale located?

According to the Archie comics, Riverdale is a fictional town. On the hit CW show, the town is located near a fictional Greendale (which is where Chilling Adventures of Sabrina takes place), but the town's exact location is actually much more mysterious.

In the early Archie stories that came out in the 1940s, Riverdale was identified as a town in The Bronx (which you can visit today). In Jackpot Comics #5, there's allegedly a panel that says "...the good ship 'Peter Stuyvesant' settles into the Hudson, as Riverdale High clambers aboard for a happy trip to Bear Mountain." Bear Mountain, situated in the Hudson Valley, is about an hour drive north of the IRL Riverdale.

Then, the location seems to shift. According to The Comics Journal, Archie creators John Leonard Goldwater and Bob Montana disagreed about where Riverdale truly resided. According to the Journal:

"In official histories of Archie Comics, Goldwater is credited with inventing the characters and Montana with visualizing them. Goldwater usually cited his experiences in Hiawatha, Kansas, as the foundation for his vision of teenage life... Montana, on the other hand, points to his high school career at Haverhill, Massachusetts, where he encountered many people who later became characters in Archie. And the Thinker statue outside Archie’s Riverdale High School is a direct borrowing from Haverhill High."

Is there a real Riverdale town?

There are actually a bunch of towns named Riverdale scattered across the country. As mentioned above, there's a Riverdale, NY, but there's also a Riverdale in Georgia and New Jersey.

Where is The CW's Riverdale filmed?

Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Jughead Jones uncover the secrets of their town while being filmed in Vancouver, Canada. Maybe you'll even catch Bughead running around for the "Blue and Gold."

Is there a real Pop's Diner and can I visit it?

You can, and it is! The original Pop's diner (also known as Rocko's) is located in Mission, British Columbia. So you can go, order a milkshake, and try not to die of a fangirl heart attack while sitting in a vintage booth.

After the show's pilot episode, Riverdale built their own official Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe so that they could film at all hours without interrupting local diners. If you can suss out its location, you might spot Cole Sprouse, KJ Apa, Camila Mendes and Lila Reinhart wandering around.

Is there a Riverdale High?

While Archie's Riverdale High does not exist IRL, there are kids today who attend a Riverdale High in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Can you imagine?! I wonder if they have their own version of Josie and the Pussycats on campus.
