BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) _ Whirlpool Corp. (WHR) on Wednesday reported second-quarter profit of $35 million.
The Benton Harbor, Michigan-based company said it had net income of 55 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.15 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 74 cents per share.
The maker of Maytag, KitchenAid and other appliances posted revenue of $4.04 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.57 billion.
Whirlpool shares have decreased slightly since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed slightly more than 1%. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $147.16, a decrease of almost 1% in the last 12 months.
