Whittier Law School Ranked Among Best Practical Training Schools for Part-Time Students

COSTA MESA, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 16, 2014) - Whittier Law School has been recognized as one of the 22 law schools in the nation with the best practical training for part-time students. The schools were ranked by preLaw magazine, which compiled data from the American Bar Association to rank the schools' programs. Whittier Law School has also been listed in National Jurist Spring 2014 magazine as one of the best schools for practical training.

"It is great to see that some schools are taking practical training seriously even for their part-time students," said Jack Crittenden, Editor in Chief of preLaw and National Jurist magazines. "But only 22 of the 97 schools with 20 or more part-time students earned honors."

The School is receiving attention for "Experience the Law," an innovative curriculum that provides hands-on experience. At Whittier Law School, students in these experiential classes not only read and discuss legal concepts, but apply the law in class simulations. More than half of the 56 required course units are taught in this manner. While many law schools offer some type of experiential learning in the second or third year, at Whittier Law School it begins in the first year.

Whittier Law School also provides practical training through a renowned Lawyering Skills Institute, where students develop research and writing skills they will need to be successful attorneys. In addition, the school offers four clinics where students work with real clients on actual cases, closely supervised by a faculty member. These clinics include the Coastkeeper Environmental Water Law Clinic, Children's Advocacy Clinic, Family Violence Clinic, and Special Education Clinic.

"Our top priority is to graduate students who are fully prepared with the knowledge, skills and professionalism needed to successfully practice law," says Penelope Bryan, Dean of Whittier Law School. "Our 'Experience the Law' curriculum gives our students three full years of experience that will differentiate them in the profession."

Whittier Law School has been accredited by the American Bar Association since 1978 and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.
