Building up an investment case requires looking at a stock holistically. Today I've chosen to put the spotlight on Argan, Inc. (NYSE:AGX) due to its excellent fundamentals in more than one area. AGX is a company that has been able to sustain great financial health, trading at an attractive share price. Below is a brief commentary on these key aspects. If you're interested in understanding beyond my broad commentary, read the full report on Argan here.

Flawless balance sheet and good value

AGX's ability to maintain an adequate level of cash to meet upcoming liabilities is a good sign for its financial health. This suggests prudent control over cash and cost by management, which is an important determinant of the company’s health. AGX currently has no debt on its balance sheet. This means it is running its business only on equity capital funding, which is typically normal for a small-cap company. Therefore the company has plenty of headroom to grow, and the ability to raise debt should it need to in the future. AGX is currently trading below its true value, which means the market is undervaluing the company's expected cash flow going forward. This mispricing gives investors the opportunity to buy into the stock at a cheap price compared to the value they will be receiving, should analysts' consensus forecast growth be correct. Compared to the rest of the construction industry, AGX is also trading below its peers, relative to earnings generated. This supports the theory that AGX is potentially underpriced.
