Woman With Dylann Roof Fan Tumblr Arrested for Planning an 'Upscale Mass Murder'
On Saturday, Elizabeth Lecron was arrested after she allegedly purchased materials for making a bomb. Lecron, who is now known to have idolized mass murderers like the Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof, was reportedly planning on carrying out an "upscale mass murder" and was charged with "transportation of explosives and explosive material for the purpose of harming others and property," according to the Washington Post.
Lecron, a 23 year old from Ohio, was being monitored by the authorities after an associate of Lecron's "expressed a desire to conduct a violent act." It was then that authorities discovered Lecron's obsession with other murderers; she posted photos of Roof-a white supremacist who was sentenced to death after murdering nine black parishioners at a Charleston church in 2015-and the Columbine shooters on Tumblr. She also posted photos and GIFs of other criminals such as Ted Bundy, Nikolas Cruz, and Adam Lanza. Lecron and her associate also reportedly flew to visit Columbine High School. Once, when her Tumblr account was shut down, Lecron simply created another and titled it "CharlestonChurchMiracle."
Her fixation even went offline, and she sent letters to Roof in prison. According to CBS News, Roof wrote back to her, asking to "mail him several books about civil uprisings and the Nazis."
According to the Post, the FBI used undercover agents and confidential sources to deduce Lecron's plans, which included a plan to commit an "upscale mass murder" at a bar in Toledo, Ohio. (She also expressed intentions to attack a pipeline and a farm.)
After purchasing the powder and screws needed to make a bomb, she told an FBI source, "So I guess I'll talk to you when the deed is done? I'm very excited."
The Post reported that in a news release, Justin E. Herdman, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, said, "Through her words and actions, she demonstrated that she was committed to seeing death and destruction in order to advance hate."
