The Toronto-based company said it had a loss of less than 1 cent on a per-share basis. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 3 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was breakeven on a per-share basis.
The gold mining company posted revenue of $407.1 million in the period.
In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, the company's shares hit $2.15. A year ago, they were trading at $2.85.
