MIAMI, FL--(Marketwired - December 01, 2014) - Global fitness leader Zumba announces today that, with the culmination of its latest campaign, close to six million dollars has been raised via its corporate social responsibility initiatives for important causes including finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease and funding preventative breast cancer research.
The Zumba charity platform, a movement led by Zumba and its global network of licensed Zumba instructors around the world, is rooted in health and fitness via Zumbathon® charity events (Zumba® classes for charity). Thousands of Zumbathon events have been held since 2010 and a percentage of proceeds are applied toward funds for specific causes. Participants reap many benefits, including exercise, building community, and being a part of a larger movement to help cure diseases and fund leading research.

In 2013, Zumba's "Party in Pink™" initiative reached new heights with the announcement of the Zumba Global Research Grant, the first-ever medical research grant named for the Zumba program toward preventative research. Specifically, the Grant funds preventative research on how a component of flaxseed will help prevent breast cancer before it starts. Since the launch of the Zumba Global Research Grant, nearly $1.5 million has been raised through Zumbathon classes and Zumba® apparel sales.
Furthermore, for the past four years Zumba has raised money for Augie's Quest, an aggressive, cure-driven initiative singularly focused on finding treatments and cures for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease). Licensed Zumba instructors have mobilized to raise over one million dollars in the past few years and the popular campaign will launch again in April 2015.
