    Electronic toymaker VTech has agreed to settle charges it violated a U.S. children's privacy law by collecting personal information without providing sufficient notice of its policies or obtaining verifiable parental consent, the Federal Trade Commission said on Monday. Hong Kong-based VTech Electronics Ltd and its U.S. subsidiary agreed to pay $650,000 to settle the charges brought by the FTC, the U.S. agency said in a statement. The two are part of Hong Kong-based VTech Holdings Ltd.

    HONG KONG, Jan. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- VTech Holdings Limited (VTech, HKSE: 303) announced that its wholly owned subsidiaries, VTech Electronics Limited and VTech Electronics North America, L.L.C., have reached a settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to resolve an investigation of a cyber attack in 2015 and certain technical issues involving notice and consent under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Although VTech has agreed to this settlement to address these long-resolved issues, VTech does not admit any violations of law or liability.
