Britain's top share index failed to rebound convincingly on Friday at the end of a turbulent week for markets during which an economic crisis in Turkey spread anxiety across global financials and mining stocks. The blue-chip FTSE 100 ended the day flat at 7,558.59 points, near a four-month low, and sealed its worst weekly loss in five months with a 1.4 percent decline. Recent market turmoil over a currency crisis in Turkey and uncertainty over global trade have dented risk appetite and hit stocks in more cyclical sectors.
Copper miner Kaz Minerals (KAZ.L) on Thursday announced an interim dividend of 6 U.S. cents per share, the first in six years, and said it expected to make a similar payment for the second half as it boosted output and kept costs low. Its share price rose around 7 percent by 0851 GMT, partly reversing deep slides this month and outperforming the broader market , which gained 1.4 percent. Kaz Minerals shares were particularly hard hit after the Kazakhstan-focused miner said at the start of this month it was expanding into Russia with a deal to buy a copper project in Baimskaya from a group of investors including Chelsea soccer club owner Roman Abramovich.

LONDON/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Kaz Minerals shares plunged after it said it was expanding into Russia with a deal to buy a copper project in Baimskaya for $900 million (£689.4 million) from a group of investors including Chelsea soccer club owner Roman Abramovich. Miners are especially keen for new copper mines to meet demand for the conductor used in electric vehicles and grids, but many have ruled out Russia as too politically complicated. Baimskaya was one of the world's most significant undeveloped copper prospects and the deal was part of the transformation of the firm, Kaz Minerals, which until now has focused on low-cost copper production in Kazakhstan, said on Thursday.

Kazakhstan-focused Kaz Minerals (KAZ.L) will scrap its secondary listing in Hong Kong because of a lack of appetite from investors, the company said on Thursday. Since the 2011 secondary listing only a small number of shareholders have elected to hold their stock on the Hong Kong register, Kaz Minerals said. Trading in Kaz Minerals' Hong Kong shares, which represent only 0.03 of the company's total equity, will stop on July 11 and the listing will be withdrawn on Aug. 1.
