Someone dumped a large number of shares on the market today and depressed ENIC to another new historical low of $.98, yes less than a dollar per share. It quickly recovered to $1.04/$1.05 and closed there. Still a very week price.I had orders in down to $1.01 and they were all executed.
It is not just ENIC. I purchased shares in 3 other South American companies today at new annual lows. As the saying goes, when the US snezzes, Latin America gets pneumonia. The US market is signaling that there are very bad times ahead.
The American media has been talking about Chile being on the cusp of being a failed state and recently has added Columbia to that column. They are looking at the left governments that have come to power recently.
An electric utility that has traded below $1.00 has to be a concern to all shareholders. The management needs to speak out to calm the rip tide that is taring into ENIC or this could become a rout.

I am sharing this information with everyone in hope that someone can “educate” me… Yesterday, between 10:17 AM and 10:24 AM, we purchased a total of 133,061 ADS spread out over 391 individual trades averaging 340 ADS per transaction which is about $373 per trade, with the smallest being 56 ADS and the largest 6,094 ADS but if you exclude the top 10% and bottom 10%, the average trade size was 201 ADS per trade. The trades were done on the following exchanges: BYX, CHX,IEX,PSX,ARCA,BATS,DARK,MEMX,NYSE. Prem, Jerry, others... any idea what is going on here with these 391 tiny trades that occurred in a matter of only 7mn and who the sellers could be, based on the exchanges and tiny volumes per trade?

Sharing the answer I got from Enel Chile:

    “Good morning, Mr.,

    Thank you for your email.
What you point out is a decision of Enel Américas, a company completely independent from Enel Chile.
We are not aware of any such discussion for Enel Chile.
If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

    Kind regards,

    Investor Relations
    Enel Chile”

I bought more ENIC today at $1.24 and $1.23, a new historical low. Anyone have any insights as to why ENIC tumbled into the bottom of the barrel in a up market ?

Enel Americas is being voluntarily delisted from New York. Could same happen to ENIC?

ENEL Americas has applied to delist their ADRs from the NYSE as apparently only 2.5% of their total outstanding common shares are represented by the NYSE listed ADRs, and as such, the costs of maintaining the ADRs on NYSE far outweighs any benefits to investors; also the Italian parent ENEL spa now owns 85% of the total outstanding common shares of ENEL Americas (I recall there was a open market tender by the Italian parent, so this must be after that tender closed; would be great if anyone with the knowledge can confirm)

This is basically 'squeeze out' logic

I don't believe the situation applies directly to ENIC, as all of those criteria fall short, ie, the level of parent ownership, the lack of a recent tender offer, and the proportion of shares represented by the ADRs are all different in the case of ENIC

Nonetheless, I believe the ENEL delisting application may be weighing on ENIC
    share price

The SEC can object to ENEL Americas delisting application; I would urge it to do so as the proposed delisting harms ADR investors

I don't see the future here like some of you guys....please help me understand, the 5 year chart on this company is dismal at best...look at it, this stock has dropped steadily for 5 years! So why the interest in a company doing so awful?

The USD is down hard against other major currencies today; seems we may be reaching a turning point on the currency after a period of inexplicable strength

Well managed emerging market currencies that are supported by positive real yields (CLP is a good candidate for this) and healthy balance of payments outlooks will become more attractive versus most of the developed world currencies

ENIC ADR should benefit from this dynamic, even though on days when the market breaks down (like today), sell programs do not make such nuanced distinctions, so ENIC still goes down with the market; but I believe ENIC will start to show outperformance over the next few weeks

Im sure most here feel regret buying this stock, I for one am and the fact that I got a tip about it and now see the lack of transparency with ENIC and all the funny business that goes on behind closed doors. Now some will argue about other stocks being in the same boat but at least they update their shareholders for better or worse. Now that I have hear mention of a delisting I will say this, as of what I am reading it is not good at all for investors. Its will go to an OTC position and be hard to liquidate or trade and that Stinks of Rot. If anyone know more of what really goes on please share. I have my hand on the SELL button and am tired of dealing. I was hoping to recoup some of my loss which isnt terrible in value but dont want to have to deal with a sketchy ditch if it is doing the delist.

I got the dividend today; based on yesterday's share price, the yield works out to 1.1%; when we add the interim dividend paid earlier, the total dividend yield for FY2021 is around 1.7%

According to the stated dividend policy, this represents 50% of the earnings, so the earnings yield is around 3.5%

If that is the net result in a horrible year when everything negative imaginable happened and it turned into a perfect storm for ENIC, I will take it

For a reason I am unable to explain, the volatility on the ADS is twice that of the underlying stock.

Chilean stock up 0.5% and ADS down -4.5% while USD/CLP down -2.3%. Go figure...

Does anyone know if there is a 'blue chip' swap market in Chile? If so, is ENEL Chile included in the list of securities?

If the answer is yes, it could account for some of the offshore/ADR selling of ENIC

The bid/ask on this stock is a minimum of 0.8%, and price changes are discrete steps of at least 0.8% (1 cent); when the broad market moves 0.5%, which is a reasonably large move, ENIC has to decide whether it is more appropriate to be $1.30 or $1.31 🙄

It is an absurd way to structure the stock price of a solid, sizable, investment grade company; if there is ever a good case for a reverse split, ENIC would be it

In my opinion, the constitutional convention is a positive step in the maturation of Chile into an inclusive/cohesive liberal democracy, whereby the sovereign risk premium declines and makes investment returns more predictable; every western society has experienced it at one point in time or another; I think of what is happening as being somewhat akin to the civil rights movement in the US, which moved the country onto a much more solid foundation, a more perfect union, so to speak

The societal imbalances were building under the surface and the risks stemming from it to investors were accumulating silently; this development just allows those risks to dissipate and provides a peaceful and deliberative path for change to occur rather than through cataclysmic societal fractures
