Jacksonville-based Ameris Bancorp (Nasdaq: ABCB) finalized its $870 million acquisition of Atlanta-based Fidelity Southern Corp. on Monday – just five days after its CEO quietly resigned. "We appreciate Dennis Zember’s many contributions to bringing our two organizations together and are confident that Palmer Proctor is more than ready to step into his new role as CEO of the combined entity,” Ameris Chairman James Miller said in a statement. Dennis Zember was a rising star at Ameris, becoming Ameris Bank CEO in 2017 before taking the helm of Ameris Bancorp in June 2018.
