A Swiss wealth manager embroiled in an insider-trading case linked to Air Liquide SA’s $13.2 billion takeover of Airgas Inc. has lost his bid to avoid posting bail of 1 million euros ($1.2 million). The charges relate to a transaction that generated a 4.4 million-euro profit for his client, Mr. A., according to the previously unreported April 10 ruling at Paris’s Cour de Cassation that was posted online last week. French criminal enforcers are taking a renewed interest in hunting down insider trades in a country where such cases rarely make the headlines.
Pacific Ethanol Inc. said it's worked out an agreement to sell carbon dioxide from its Stockton plant to Airgas USA LLC, which could send $1 million annually to the Sacramento-based renewable fuel company’s bottom line. Industrial gases firms Air Products and Air Liquide may bid for parts of peers Linde and Praxair that the two groups may be forced to divest in the event of a merger, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported on Friday. Linde and Praxair need to obtain anti-trust approval for their merger in 25 countries, for which they have said they were prepared to make divestments up to a "pain threshold" of $3.7 billion in sales beyond which the deal may no longer make sense. Praxair's finance chief said in late July there has been a "significant" amount of unsolicited interest in assets the firm could put up for sale.
