The United Auto Workers union on Thursday reached a tentative agreement for a new contract covering 850 Aramark employees who work at General Motors plants in Ohio and Michigan in maintenance, two sources briefed on the matter said. The UAW's national council has been delaying for hours on Thursday a vote on a separate tentative agreement reached Wednesday with GM covering 48,000 hourly workers as talks continued with Aramark. The UAW did not want members to be forced to cross Aramark picket lines to return to work, sources said.

Aramark tapped industry veteran John J. Zillmer as its next CEO and overhauled its board, the latest moves at the Philadelphia food services company as part of a shakeup by activist investor Mantle Ridge LP. The move is a return to Aramark for Zillmer, 64, who previously spent 18 years at the company, including the role president of global food and support services. Aramark also said Monday it has appointed five new members to its board.

Zillmer was previously with Aramark for 18 years, serving at one point as president of global food and support services. He left the company to serve as CEO of Allied Waste Industries and was CEO of Univar, a chemical and ingredients distributor. Zillmer joins the board along with five others, including Yum Brands Inc. CEO Greg Creed and former McDonald's Corp. executive Karen King. Aramark stock has rallied 47.4% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index has gained 17.8% for the period.
Shares Aramark hit a new 52-week high Monday after the food-services giant announced an agreement with activist investor Mantle Ridge that calls for a new CEO and changes to the board. Veteran executive John Zillmer has been appointed CEO and will join Aramark's board as one of several new directors. "John Zillmer is an outstanding leader with a proven record of accelerating business performance and fostering a strong corporate culture," Aramark Chairman Stephen Sadove said in a statement, which noted that Zillmer had previously worked for the company for 18 years.
