You Can Pre-Purchase The Mysterious Atari VCS Console This Month For $199

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Atari about the new console they’re bringing to market, the VCS, but with their Indiegogo campaign about to launch at the end of the month on May 30th, they’re starting to ramp up promotion again. According to Atari, with the campaign launches you’ll be able to pre-purchase the console immediately, including one version, an Onyx black variant which is different than the “Collector’s Edition” woodgrain one we always see, that will “start at just $199 for a limited number of early-bird adopters.” I’m still not quite clear on what the final price is supposed to be, but apparently between $250-$300. The Atari VCS (formerly the “Ataribox”) remains one of the most perplexing stories in gaming, with everyone initially assuming that it was going to be another retro console in the vein of Nintendo’s recent offerings.
