LA port is going to operate 24/7, means shipping rate will drop.

The Aug 2021 investor presentation included forecast EBITDA $993 million and net earnings of $440 million. Given Q1 &Q2 earnings of $81 + $48 million ...that leaves $211 million earnings for the next 2 quarters . PE dropping to 8
2021 earnings $1.78 ............. but I bet they exceed their guidance

I'm still waiting for APR to announce some fast track power generation deal. In April APR announced up to 10 gas turbines for a total of 330 MW to Mexico, then in May a deal with the California irrigation district for 3 GT's . With many regions of the world suffering power shortages I would expect some action on the APR front. Even a sale of some legacy diesel gensets as they focus more on higher output gas turbines.
The container shipping business is firing on all cylinders and I expect something similar with APR .......but alas I am still waiting. We may have to wait for the quarterly report to hear an update on APR.

I see that ATCO raised their quarterly dividend to $.13 payable on 11-1.

That's about a 4% increase if it holds .... not bad.

Wow, didn't see this coming? What is going on today? We got good news, and it sinks 5%?

Can anybody explain the reason for the write down on APR? Asset impairment is the only thing I was able to find. That’s too vague for me.

Q4 2021 dividend announcement should be this week. Is it possible that the increased volume of late, particularly the recent purchase by the Washingtons is a hint of a dividend increase to be announced?
I know Sokol isn't a big fan of dividends to begin with, and they certainly have plenty of investment obligations to fulfill with all the new vessels being purchased, but with the market strength we've seen, with the ongoing rollover of contracts at much better pricing, and with the growing earnings and cash-generation potential, they could afford a modest increase, which would also result in a strong rise in share-price, which both Watsa and the Washingtons would love dearly.
    Thoughts?

Container shipping rates unchanged from last week ....$129,000 per day for the 8500 TEU, $94,000 per day for the 4250 TEU. 3 times the 5 yr avg rates and they look like they are going to stay around a while.
I have noticed the Q2 supplemental financial information has been updated with some of the terms of the recently renegotiated contracts. I don't expect a big jump in earnings just a clear path to increased cash flow, earnings, and credit rating. Future looks like bright IMO

My guess is we will not see a dividend increased until after the company achieves an investment grade credit rating. Given the rate at which ships are being acquired/order and the need to take on more debt to pay for them, the dividend increase could be a ways off.

So, let's talk about the 5 new ships coming online for the 4th qtr. It's apparent that these ships weren't in the guidance for the 4th qtr, so how much extra revenue and EPS will these 5 ships add? All I can say is if the algos are going to sell, it would be a good idea to be buying them up right now if you have the capital. The Washington's are, and so should you!

pretty soon investors will realize that Seaspan (Atlas) gets paid whether the ships are idle waiting to load or unload or steaming toward a destination. Insiders know this and are buying. I can't understand where the sellers are coming from but I am buying more. I had to sell some of my Berkshire Hathaway to fund another ATCO purchase yesterday.

Has anyone noticed that the Washingtons bought 500K more shares? Thoughts? The small float keeps on getting smaller.

Do they have ships waiting to offload? Do they get paid during the wait time?

I think it is getting close to the time APR energy will be making some big moves. I say this based on the needs I see globally. Mostly standby power . I just read "China’s Power Crunch Is Next Economic Shock Beyond Evergrande" China tends to be a vacuum sucking up resources on a world scale. Under investment in base load power generation, growing reliance on intermittent renewable energy is opening the windows of opportunity for APR................ Don't be surprised if they start announcing some contracts . Maybe I'm too optimistic , but I'll be surprised if nothing shows up in the last months of 2021.

Rates are up again $128,000 per day for the 8500 TEU vs $125,000 per day last week and $30,000 per day last year. The 4250 TEU vessels are up to $91,000 per day from $88,000 per day last week and $17,000 per day last year

I was wrong. D. Washington increased his stake in ATCO by 2.5MM shares. Scares me that no one caught this? He went from 45,451,493 to 47,951,493. This represents about a $35MM open market purchase. If that isn't a bullish insider buy, I don't know what is????
