    BAE Systems(BAES.L) and Qatar have entered into a contract valued at around 5 billion pounds for the country to buy 24 Typhoon combat aircraft, the British defence group said on Sunday. At a ceremony in Doha British Defence Minister Gavin Williamson and Qatari Minister of State for Defence Affairs Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah, oversaw the signing of a deal which the British minister called a "massive vote of confidence, supporting thousands of British jobs and injecting billions into our economy". "We are delighted to begin a new chapter in the development of a long-term relationship with the State of Qatar and the Qatar Armed Forces, and we look forward to working alongside our customer as they continue to develop their military capability," Charles Woodburn, BAE's chief executive, said in a statement.

    FTSE retreats on sterling pressure, posts November loss

    Britain's index of leading shares lagged behind their European peers for a second session on Thursday, as it remained under pressure from a rising sterling buoyed by Brexit talks optimism. Britain's blue chip FTSE 100 index closed down 0.9 percent lower at 7,326.67 points and ended November with a 2.1 percent loss, its worst since June, as the pound hit a two-month high. "The FTSE 100 has been at the mercy of the pound today and even though the market managed to swing to positive territory earlier today, it was dragged back into the red as sterling picked up", CMC Markets Analyst David Madden told clients in a late afternoon note.

    BAE sees no change to earnings from new accounting standards

    British defence group BAE Systems (BAES.L) said on Thursday its transition to a new accounting standard was not expected to have a material impact for its 2018 year and beyond. BAE, which is moving to the International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) 15, said the switch would have no impact on the way it managed its contracts. BAE also said on Thursday it had agreed with the trustee boards of its defined benefit pension schemes to increase by 15 million pounds the amount it pays each year to reduce the deficit, taking the total annual figure to around 220 million pounds in 2018.
