Leading cyber insurer Beazley has launched two further client education initiatives as part of its 360o approach to cyber risk management. More policyholders are now eligible for risk management workshops, with new offerings for information security best practices and business continuity planning. Alongside the expanded workshop program, clients can now access Beazley Privacy Builder, a proprietary data privacy and security toolkit for US cyber policyholders.
Allianz SE is one of the biggest insurers of the World Cup. Before the start of soccer’s most important contest, retailers offered sales promotions or prizes that would pay out if Germany took the crown again this year. To cover the potential payments, those retailers asked Allianz for insurance. The German insurer declined, betting a high likelihood of a victory for its home country, and passed up potential revenue.
Beazley has more than a decade of experience underwriting cyber risks, underwriting its first InfoSec policy in 2006. In the early years, the main concern of policyholders was third party exposure deriving from the loss of personal customer data. More recently, attacks that disable a company’s systems – often accompanied by an extortion demand – have emerged as a major threat, especially for manufacturers, utilities and industrial companies.
Specialist commercial insurer Beazley outlines some of the risks and likely insured values of the big match in Russia. Beazley plc (BEZ.L) is the parent company of specialist insurance businesses with operations in Europe, the US, Canada, Latin America, Asia and Australia. Beazley manages six Lloyd’s syndicates and in 2017 underwrote gross premiums worldwide of $2,344 million.
The underwriter, which provides marine, casualty and property insurance and reinsurance, said gross written premiums rose to $631 million for the quarter ended March 31, from $573 million a year earlier. Premiums in speciality lines, the company's largest division and source of much of Beazley's growth in recent years, rose 6 percent to $295 million, helped by growth in business written within the U.S.
Beazley, the specialist insurer, has appointed Vicente Miranda as a specialty lines underwriter in its Miami office. Mr Miranda joins from R&G Espinosa International Adjusters where, as commercial manager, he developed a strong business network in London, Miami, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Specialist insurer Beazley has launched a digital insurance policy that, for the first time ever, describes in plain English precisely what coverage the policyholder has bought. Beazley Weather Guard protects event organizers against the effects of severe weather that may cause the cancellation of an outdoor event. It can also be used by retailers to insure weather-related sales promotions, linking a sales refund to an unusual weather event. The language of the new digital policy, which can be easily accessed on a mobile device, describes precisely (and exclusively) the coverage purchased. The first sentence of each policy spells out the trigger for coverage, together with the sum insured in dollars (or other applicable currency) and any self-insured deductible.
Insurance broker Paul Marshall can count on his phone ringing in the aftermath of a school shooting. Since the Feb. 14 shooting at a Florida high school, where 17 people were killed and more than a dozen injured, seven South Florida school districts have bought $3 million worth of "active shooter" coverage that Marshall's Ohio-based employer, the McGowan Companies, began selling in 2016.
Gross written premiums rose 7 percent to $2.34 billion (1.69 billion pounds). Insurance industry premiums, pressured by tough competition, are now rising after the industry faced record bills from hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfire of over $135 billion last year. "Beazley achieved an underwriting profit in 2017, a year in which hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires generated heavy claims for the insurance industry ... Looking ahead, we see potential for double digit (premium) growth in 2018," Chief Executive Officer Andrew Horton said.
